The King Beez

Meet the band

Masters of rhythm and blues, the King Beez have set the performance bar to the ultimate level of perfection. This group breathes life and breath into the very soul of rhythm and blues to redefine the essence of excellence in this genre and enrich the blues experience for all – on and off Beale Street. In 1991, the band debuted at B.B. King’s where they have continued to take center stage ever since.

Solomon McDaniel:

Solomon is the leader of the King Beez. As a keyboardist from Muskegon Heights, Mich., he ventured down to the home of the blues in Memphis where he has been playing with members of the King Beez since 1979. Solomon has also performed with well-known musicians including Rufus Thomas, Joyce Cobb, Shirley Brown and J Blackfoot.

Angela Adkisson:

A gospel music artist born in a rural town in Tennessee, Angela has traveled the world sharing her gift of song and has been singing in the Memphis area since 2007 when she teamed up with the King Beez. She has previously sung in many choirs behind well-known gospel artists such as Pastor Shirley Ceasar, Rance Allen and Timothy Wright, as well as sang with The Mississippi Mass Choir.

 James Jackson:

James is considered one of the best rhythm and blues bass players in the Mid-South. Growing up in the city of blues, Clarksdale, Miss., he began his music career when he was only 9 years old. In 1991, he teamed up with Solomon and David to form the King Beez. This trio is now known as “doctors of rhythm and blues.” He has also shared the stage with many influential artists such as B.B. King, Issac Hayes, Little Milton and more.

 Charlton Johnson:

A native Memphian, Charlton has been a part of the city’s music scene since he was 14 years old when he lied about his age to play guitar in blues clubs on Beale Street. Now rocking the stage as lead guitarist with the King Beez at B.B. King’s, he loves playing weekly on the historic street in which he got his start. He is a jazz music enthusiast, teaching jazz guitar and jazz combo performance classes at his alma mater, The University of Memphis, in his spare time. He has also published two guitar books, traveled the world to play music and performed with well-known artists including Slide Hampton, Jimmie Heat, Rufus Thomas, Albert King, Ann Peebles and Tom Browne.

 Ricky Adkisson:

Born into a very musical family in a small town in West Tennessee, Ricky began his singing career at an early age when he joined his family singing group. He currently sings lead for the King Beez, who he has been performing with since 2007. Previously, he sang with the nationally-acclaimed blues rhythm and blues group, The Stylistics, as well as with many other gospel groups in Tennessee and on stages up and down Beale Street.

 Mike Krepper:

He has performed with many types of bands ranging from country to jazz, however, his first true love and forte is rhythm and blues. He has played with many greats, such as Little Anthony and the Imperials, the Temptations and the “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin, as well as traveled with the Artie Shaw Orchestra and the Guy Lombardo Orchestra.
